Leadership at Maragon Private Schools is a pillar in which learners can achieve. In the GET phase the learners are afforded the opportunity to participate in The President’s Award which is a voluntary programme that encourages children to challenge themselves in developing socially, physically and cognitively. The rewards are the progression from the Bronze Medal, through Silver to the Gold which is the ultimate President’s Award. This programme can be commenced at age fifteen, and follows a three year course.
The Representative Council of Learners (RCL) is an elected position within each registration class chosen at the beginning of the year and again at the mid-year point. Each class will be represented by both a girl and a boy.
The Enke Leadership Forum is run by an independent association who select suitable candidates from the Grade 11 group. Pupils apply at the beginning of the year and selection is made by Enke. The forum gathers like-minded pupils from various school backgrounds to discuss the current and future state of their social responsibilities.
There are also opportunities for pupils to be elected as Sports Captains in the various sporting codes as well as being chosen as House Captains.
The prefect body is elected during the Grade 11 year. All pupils in Grade 11 are taken away over a weekend to assess their leadership capabilities and further training is provided to assist all the pupils. At the completion of the development period, candidate prefects are elected and the final prefect body is announced at Honours Evening at the end of the year.
All the above programmes are recognised and are eligible for points allocated according to varied criteria assessed at many levels.
