High School Cricket
The 2013 cricket season has been a very busy and successful season.
In January, the 1st and u/15 teams kicked the season off with a tour to the Lowveld where we were hosted by Uplands College. Our hosts were very hospitable but they were very competitive on the field. Our cricket boys got a taste of playing a very organized cricket school and even though the results did not come our way, they did learn valuable lesson on the tour. We would like to thank the organizers from Uplands College for their hospitality.
Due to the heavy rains during October last year, most of the league matches was played during January and February. Our main objective was to win the league in the B-Section of the Gauteng Schools Cricket League to move into the A-Section. Our 1st team ended the league unbeaten in their seven matches with Bradley Lynch scoring one half-century, three centuries and a magnificent 234 runs against Rooseveld Park. This stands as the highest score for a Maragon learner at all levels. Congratulations Bradley!
With the help of the 2nd team (who also finished unbeaten in their three matches) and the u/15 and the u/14 teams pulling their weight we managed to move up to the A-Section for the next season. The new season will start in October 2013. Our congratulations and thanks to all the cricket players for their hard work during the season. You made it possible for the school to achieve our goals.
To cap off a very successful season, our 1st team was invited to the annual Curro Aurora 6-a-side tournament. We beat Curro Hazeldean, Summit College and Curro Aurora on our way to the final. In the final, we bowled Sagewood out for 37 runs to eventually win by 9 wickets. Jordyn Anderson won the Best Bowler award that included a hat-trick and Sparks Zwane won a fielding award.
Congratulations to all the cricket players on a very successful season, you made Maragon proud!
