The D12 championships took place on Wednesday, 3 March at Florida Hoërskool. Our athletes did extremely well. The following athletes will represent D12 at the Gauteng Championships on the 13th and 14th of March at the University of Pretoria. They are:
* Bianca Chetty: 100m, 200m and Long jump * Chantelle Theron: 90m Hurdles, Long jump and Triple jump * Carron Fick: 400m Hurdles * Joe Malebe: 110m Hurdles * Lloyd Strydom: High jump * Brandon McMillan: 110m Hurdles * Jan Kotze: 100m Hurdles * Sasha Gasa: 100m Hurdles * Brendan Rankou: 110m Hurdles * Dean Forster: 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles

"We are the champions..."
The Maragon swimming team ended their 2010 season on a high note, with a convincing win at the A-League Interhigh Gala held at Ellis Park on Tuesday 2nd March. Winning no less than 18 events and smashing numerous records, the Maragon team once again proved to be invincible. The final scores were as follows:
1st Maragon - 254 2nd Heronbridge - 227 3rd Reddam House - 217 4th King David Victory Park - 216 5th Leeuwenhof - 164 6th Sacred Heart - 152 7th Monument - 139
The swimmers who won their events have qualified to participate in the Prestige gala on Tuesday 9th March at the Delville Pool in Germiston. We wish these swimmers good luck.
Maragon’s Swimmers Triumph at Platinum Mile
Maragon Private School swimmers participated in the Platinum Mile at Buffelspoort Dam, on Sunday 7 February 2010.
Thirteen of our swimmers entered and completed the grueling mile-long swim, with a number achieving places in the top 10 of their age groups.
In the High School Boys’ event, the nail-biting finish saw Yvan Nys taking first place amongst a field of just over 200 swimmers, in a winning time of 21.01.
In the High School Girls’ event Chanel Johnston came in second. Both Yvan and Chanel won Gold Medals, a considerable achievement.
Maragon also obtained two Silver Medals in the event for boys aged 14 and under, with Jordyn Anderson and Kyle Wittstock being placed 6th and 7th respectively.
Well done to our aquatic all-stars! We look forward to more great results from the Midmar Mile, to be swum on 13th and 14th February.
Maragon’s Matriculants Triumph!
Maragon has achieved a stellar set of matriculation results for 2009, the best ever in the school’s history.
Learners at Maragon achieved an astounding set of collective results, with a 100% pass rate, 90% achieving University Entrance (20% above the IEB average), two learners achieving 8 distinctions each and a total of 92 subject distinctions.
Dr Kieck, Rector the School, commented the following on this momentous achievement: ‘Congratulations to Maragon’s Matrics and Staff of 2009, on an outstanding set of results. Your dedication, passion, and constant striving for excellence have resulted in Matric results worthy of your input. Maragon is proud of you as you continue to uphold the pursuit of academic excellence. Well done to all! We wish all Maragon Matriculants every continued success with their future studies.’
Individual Achievers Amongst Maragon’s group of overall achievers, certain learners stood out above the rest.
At the top of the group was Emile Zitzke, who achieved an amazing 94% overall average, with a set of straights A’s in his 8 subjects, of which not one had a result lower than 90%!
Hot on his heels was Karien van Zyl, who also achieved straight A’s in her 8 subjects, of which 5 had results of over 90%.
Other significant achievements came from the following learners: Vincent Britz: 6 distinctions Shenade Fataar: 5 distinctions Dawn le Roux: 5 distinctions Mario Baptista: 4 distinctions Anandi Schwarz: 4 distinctions Wen Hao Wang: 4 distinctions Tamsin Weaver: 4 distinctions
Group Results Maragon Private Schools’ 62 learners achieved 92 distinctions between them. The Sciences saw a total of 15 A’s, the Mathematics Department achieved 14 A’s, the Languages achieved 17 A’s, the Business Sciences earned 10 A’s, and Life Orientation achieved an amazing 33 A’s!
Staff Announcements
Mr. Dion Kotze has been promoted to Head of the Maragon Faculty of Academic Research and Development working directly under Dr Kieck as they explore, develop and evolve the Maragon product which is to be incorporated in future projects. In a reciprocal swop, Mr. David Maree will move as Deputy Principal to the Primary school working under Mr. Vorster, while Mr. Harry Bateman assumes his post as Deputy Principal in the High School serving under newly-appointed Mr. Deon Visser.
Mrs. Kerry Rheeder of the Foundation Phase deservedly assumes her role as Head of Department.
Mr. Etienne Janse Van Rensburg assumes the co-ordination of both Primary and High School Sport.
