EQUESTRIAN
Every year Maragon Primary School enter between 10 and 15 riders in the South African National Equestrian Schools' Association or SANESA, where they participate for West Gauteng.
The children ride at Maple Ridge Equestrian Centre where they practice Show Jumping, Dressage, Equitation and Showing.
During the first part of the year they participate in 4 Qualifiers where they accumulate points. After the 4th qualifier the total number of points for each rider is determined from their best 3 qualifiers. If they are in the top 8, they move on to the Gauteng Finals. Here they have only one qualifier to reach the top 8 who will represent Gauteng in the Nationals, where they rid against the best in South Africa.
Maragon has had quite a few riders who rode in the Nationals. Many of our young riders have received places in the different principals and the team has been awarded the Shield, for the Category 10 - 15 riders, TWICE in a row!
The parents and families of these young riders are very involved in the sport and work hard at each event. They have formed a close bond and support each other through thick and thin.
This is a fast-growing sport and parents and children who are interested in riding for the Maragon Team, are welcome to join.
